Antep house in Hanifioglu Road in Bey Ward which has the best sight/scenery of old city structure of Antep with its narrow roads, passages, hewn stone walls and houses with clay roofing tiles. The building has changed the owner by time, finally bought by businessman late Mr. Hasan SUZER when it was ruined and damaged. And after completing its restoration it was donated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to be used as “ Hasan Suzer Ethnography Museum ” and the ethnography department in Gaziantep Museum was moved to this building and designed as Mansion-Museum.

In its exhibition, it was displayed the old life in an Antep House and ethnologic structure by animation of models. The building with three floors based on a cistern carved in main rock of building its top covered by a split roof with clay made tiles. There are three doors of the building two of them opened to the road and other to the cross street. It is possible to pass from embellished big door from front face side to the middle inner court called “Hayat” and through small door to the section called “Selamlýk” At southeast corner of the inner court there is a separated house with two floors involving living room, cooking room at lower floor and toilet. This section of house was used by waitresses of the house. Inner court, “Hayat”, was surrounded by colored stone walls with fine stone works.

The basements built under base floor by carving the main soft limestone rock of the building is consisted of two separated places passed from one to other and there is level difference of about 2 meters between them. At basement in view of a cave where the camels of the owner were staying in one time, there were cubes used for stocking pectin and olive oil and some sections for storing the foodstuff and also a water well.

In working room at base floor which is meeting with first lights of the sun at mornings, embroidery needlework works with various flowery patterns and designs on silk and wheeling spinning wheel on wooden loom and stretching silk on frame works were animated by models. Also some hand made artworks of Antep which disappeared and not in use nowadays were displayed in this room.

The south faced room of the house is the room most benefits from sun light in winters. This room was designed as warming room suitable for its function. In this room mother, father and two children were animated as chatting around the tandoor by models. In the past, in the Antep houses, there was a heating system consisting of an inlaid stone oven filled with embers at center of the room and a platform on it and a large quilt covered on this platform. The persons of the family were heating by veering this quilt heated by the oven. It was really great pleasure chatting around the tandoor with told stories and folk tales and eaten dried fruits.

Cooking room next to the working room was one of the places meeting the first lights of the sun. In old Antep life, it was woken up by sound of doves mixed with first sunlight of the day and it was started to preparation of breakfast. Cooking room was the place for preparing the breakfast bread. In this room, preparing dough, rolling bread and baking it on iron sheet were displayed by models. Also there is a model referring the young daughter of the house preparing the butter by traditional cup next to the models showing the steps of preparation of breakfast.

There is Turkish bath (hamam) on right hand of the stairs to first floor from inside of house. It has properties and features of Turkish bath and heating by convention of hot steam under the floor covering. In bath, a mother with her loincloth and cleaning cloth bag washing her little daughter was animated by models. Also some objects used in Turkish bath were displayed here such as marble basin under the tap, cups of bath, bone made combs and soap holder.
